ADROSONIC’s Digital Innovation Lab at BIT Mesra Opens AI Research Opportunities for Students

Adrosonic Launches Digital Innovation Lab at BIT Mesra

[October 21, 2024]: As artificial intelligence, data and automation reshape industries, understanding emerging technologies is no longer enough. The ability to apply them to complex problems, within real operational and industry contexts, is becoming an essential part of technology capability. Academic learning provides the foundation, but meaningful exposure comes from working with the challenges, constraints and applications that exist beyond the classroom.

It was this gap that led ADROSONIC to initiate the Digital Innovation Lab at Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra), in collaboration with the institute. The Lab was formally inaugurated on October 21, 2024, during the International Data Science and Engineering Conclave (IDSEC ’24), marking the establishment of the first Digital Innovation Lab of its kind in Jharkhand and the third in India.

The initiative builds on a Memorandum of Understanding signed between ADROSONIC and BIT Mesra in 2022, establishing a framework for industry and academia to collaborate on emerging technologies, research and applied problem-solving.

Equipped with more than 20 computers and dedicated collaborative space, the Lab provides students and researchers with an environment to work across Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Large Language Models, Data Science and GIS. Its scope extends across sectors including insurance, agriculture and security, enabling students to examine how emerging technologies can be applied to different industry environments and problem statements.

The exposure is intended to take technology research beyond isolated experimentation. Industry applications often involve complex data, regulatory requirements, operational constraints and competing priorities. Working within these conditions gives students a closer understanding of how technology is evaluated, developed and adapted for practical use.

For ADROSONIC, the Lab creates a direct link between enterprise technology experience and academic research, while providing an environment to engage with emerging talent and explore new areas of technology. An early research outcome from this work is the white paper, “AI Insurance Unleashed: Redefining Insurance with Language Models,” developed by ADROSONIC in collaboration with Aventum Group, a London-headquartered specialty insurance organisation, to examine the application of language models within insurance.

The rationale for the initiative was reflected in the remarks of Mayank, CEO & MD, ADROSONIC, at the inauguration.

“The tech industry is evolving, and leveraging technology is essential. Everyone wants to engage in AI, and they need experts from the market. This innovation lab will provide practical knowledge from industry leaders. It will bring real use cases to students, making it a win-win for both academia and industry.”

Prof. (Dr.) Indranil Manna, Vice Chancellor, BIT Mesra, emphasised the importance of taking education beyond the classroom and bringing students closer to industry expertise. Reflecting on the role of the Lab and the collaboration.

Vice Chancellor, BIT Mesra

“Education should not just stay in the classroom. We need to set an example. Professors may have brilliant minds, but you need two hands to make things happen. With this Lab and our students getting exposure to industry leaders, it sets an example of how industry and academia can work together to create meaningful impact.”

The Digital Innovation Lab extends the relationship between ADROSONIC and BIT Mesra into a working environment for research, experimentation and technology development. Students can engage with emerging technologies against industry contexts, while academic research and industry experience can inform the development of new ideas and solutions.

The initiative brings academic research closer to the realities of technology deployment, giving students and researchers at BIT Mesra a setting to test ideas, develop solutions and work with technologies shaping industry. The Lab is designed to turn that exposure into practical experience and stronger technology capability.
